September Scarred Lands Update!

Last month we transferred all of the remaining Scarred Lands books printed for this Kickstarter to Onyx Path's sales partner Studio2, which means that we are now completely wrapping up the Kickstarter ourselves, while looking to the future of Scarred Lands.

So, that means that you'll be able to tell your friends who want a copy to order them from your local game store, as Studio2 sells to distributors and retailers. And if you still are having shipping issues you can write directly to me at [email protected] and I can resolve the issue just as directly. I just, in fact, had three 5e SL books sent out this morning by Studio2.

Right now, we're in planning mode for Creature Collection 2.0 - that's a placeholder title - and I'll have more news for you about that once things start rolling along. That may be in a few weeks or a few months, so rather than grind monthly Updates while I really have no news, I'm going to move to Updating when I have news, and when we do the Creature Collection 2.0 Kickstarter, we'll start up regular Updates again.

We do have a few more Scarred Lands projects that may hit before CC2.0, so I'll let you know about them as they come up, and, in fact, I have one of them to announce now!

Some time before his death, Stewart Wieck contacted me to let me know that he was talking to two writers who were working on a Scarred Lands novel. He thought it was good, and as we were partners on Scarred Lands, he wanted my OK to proceed.

Well, I'm a bit leery of game novels, having read my fair share over the years, and having worked on a lot of them with White Wolf. But Stew was really happy with this one, and I figured it might help the line if it was any good at all. Fast forward to after his passing, and I was contacted by the authors who wanted to know if we were still interested since Stew was gone.

Honestly, I had forgotten that this was being worked on, and probably could have bailed on it considering the circumstances. But a deal's a deal, and if Stew was committed to it then the least I could do was give it a chance.

Well, I am SO glad that I did. It's really good and well situated in the Scarred Lands we all know and love. Authors Sarah L. Stewart and Frances Stewart have delivered an action-packed adventure that still depicts the Scarred Lands the way only true fans could.

So, we're going to give you all the chance to download the PDF version for free, as a thank you to all of you for your support and patience, and a way to wrap up this Kickstarter and enter an exciting new publishing era for Scarred Lands!

We hope you enjoy it, and the PDF as well as eBook and physical versions will be available soon!

August Scarred Lands Update!

Well, Gen Con 2018 came and went and was pretty fantastic! There was a lot of interest in Scarred Lands books, both 5e and Pathfinder (having Paizo right across the aisle didn't hurt for that, I'm thinking).

We'll be moving all of our Scarred Lands books from our fulfillment shipper to our friends at Studio2, who we've partnered with to get Scarred Lands into your Friendly Local Game Stores, so you should be able to see them in retailers (and be able to order them) before the end of the year.

I am thiiiis close to being able to share with you how we'll be handling the new version of the Creature Collection, but the holiday weekend here in the US prevented one of the parts of the plan from being finalized. Sorry to tease everybody, but I do try and maintain our monthly Update commitment, so hopefully I'll be able to share the plan next month!

Thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts for which Scarred Lands creatures just scream out to be included in the book! Your input means a lot and helps us to focus in on the creatures you're all looking for, not just the ones we love!

If you have ideas but haven't yet set them down into the Comments here, there's still time and we could still use them as we set our plans in motion.

We're a week away from the Gen Con gaming convention in Indianapolis and if you'll be attending the massive convention running August 2-5, come visit Onyx Path at Booth 501 and maybe check out one of the two What's Up with Onyx Path? panels to see what's planned for the next year(s).

Speaking of planning for next year, I wanted to ask all of you, who truly are the most dedicated of Scarred Lands fans, which creatures/monsters you'd like to see in a new Creature Collection for Scarred Lands.

They can be old favorites from previous CCs, creatures from other SL books, or SL versions of creatures from other sources. No guarantees any creatures you mention actually wind up in the book, but we'll try!

Also, we're excited to announce that we're partnering with Fabricate, LLCto provide Scarred Lands adventures for Expedition!

Expedition is a light RPG using cards and a smartphone or tablet. Whether you're new to the genre or a D&D veteran, whether you're playing alone, with a group of friends, your spouse or with your kids - anyone can learn to play in less than 5 minutes!

There are new quests and adventures every week, and the Expedition community can even create their own adventures and share them with others. With this new license, Scarred Lands-specific content will be available as booster cards and through the app.

In Geist: The Sin-Eaters, you play a person who died with a powerful burden on their soul — something they didn't accomplish in life, or something they never found. On the other side of the veil, they made a bargain with a powerful being called a geist, which returned them to the world of the living and to their own body, at the cost of a permanent bond between them and the geist. Now your character stands as a medium, with one foot in the world of the living and one in the world of the dead.

Word from Nocturnal is that the fulfillment shipper has shipped all of the US packages and that the rest of the world is starting to get their rewards as well.

As noted in the comments here on Kickstarter, there were some flubs made because of the Nocturnal gang having to jump in to run the fulfillment part of this KS and some things were set up by Stewart in ways that absolutely made sense to him, but were not obvious to them.

So far, every glitch like that is fixable and either has been or will be fixed so that you all get the rewards you pledged for. But it has slowed down some responses, so please bear with us all if you are one of the backers affected.

And thanks again for your patience as we sorted through this whole situation that was distressing both professionally and even moreso personally.

On the upside, I was just watching a Twitch stream last night where a fellow backer went through his SL PG describing what was cool about every single chapter. It was fantastic, and we're all really thrilled that he was so in love with what we've created here. Somewhere, I know Stewart is really proud of his Scarred Lands earning such a reception.

Hope all of you feel just as pleased as you get your long-awaited books!
