Funded! Stretch Sprints! New Pledge Levels!

It took less than 100 hours! FUNDED! Thanks again to everyone for your amazing support. Here's a word from my Scarred Lands partner, Rich Thomas:

From RichT of Onyx Path

"Yeah! We are funded! Thanks so much to everyone who pledged to get us here!

"I'm incredibly excited to be able to bring back the Scarred Lands as this was one of my favorite worlds to help create back in the old White Wolf days. As a long, long time D&D player, it was a dream come true - and here we are again with the opportunity to recreate Scarred Lands for old fans and new Pathfinder and 5th edition players as well. I think Scarred Lands has some of the most compelling and cohesive setting background of any fantasy world, with a variety of hugely playable races and classes that exist for well examined reasons in the setting. Plus, the purpose of this KS isn't just to get the books created, but to get them out into stores where more folks will get the chance to fall in love with Scarred Lands. Thanks for helping us do that very thing!"

Stretch Sprints

We've entered stretch goal territory, and because we achieve the goal of updating a character for the 3e OGL edition of The Wise & The Wicked every $1000, I think of some of these stretch goals as "stretch sprints". Even as I write this we're halfway to the first unlocked character!

As stated in the stretch goal portion on the project page, after every $1000, the first character from the W&W scroll to receive two call-outs in the Comments is the one that will be updated for that $1000 goal. I won't attack your inbox with an update every time we pass a $1000 threshold, so if you have a favorite character, I encourage you to keep an eye on the project to get your vote in when it counts. Votes prior to crossing a new $1000 goal do NOT count. This way new backers can have equal voice in voting for a character.

By the way, if we manage to stretch all the way to $67k to unlock all 47 W&W characters, then we'll produce two new updated editions of the entire The Wise & The Wicked! All backers $18+ will receive a PDF for the updated edition(s) that match the PDF(s) of your pledge reward, while those $45+ may also add-on a physical version of the book. More details should we stretch that high.

New Pledge Levels

We are adding two new pledge levels. The first is a response to those of you who have expressed special interest in the dice — it's available as an add-on as well to grant a discount on buying a full collection of 36d6 Scarred Lands dice (and as a pledge also allows participation in the stretch goals!):

Pledge $50 or more

36d6 GAMBLER (dice only)

Receive a complete collection of Scarred Lands 6d6 sets — 6d6 of each of the six available options. This is also available as a $50 add-on. You may also add-on more sets for $10 each or collections for $50 each (no additional shipping!).

For the second new pledge reward, now that we've funded and are updating W&W characters, I get to announce this premium pledge level:

Pledge $750 or more (limited to 6)

Wise or Wicked?

Your character stands among the legends of the Scarred Lands! He or she will be illustrated and receive full Pathfinder and 5th Edition treatments to join the updated characters from The Wise & The Wicked. Your character will be included in the PDF of updated characters given to all qualifying backers, and if a print edition is unlocked, your character will appear therein as well. In addition, you'll receive your choice of the printed edition of either the Pathfinder or 5th Edition of the rulebook and PDF copies of both versions.

To conclude, another cool piece of art to share with you...

The 5th Edition OGL is Official

And Scarred Lands is Onboard!

Just a short time ago, Wizards of the Coast announced the 5th Edition OGL and released the new SRD!

Perfect timing!

Our new Scarred Lands Player's Guide will now incorporate the 5th Edition OGL. I'm betting this makes the Scarred Lands the first 3rd party setting to be 5th Edition OGL! It's not quite the coup we scored when the Scarred Lands were born at White Wolf when we published the first Creature Collection in 2000, but it's exciting nonetheless.

Birth of the Scarred Lands

Do you know the story? When we heard about the 3rd Edition OGL at White Wolf, we immediately launched into a company-wide effort to create an awesome book of OGL monsters. We had to guess at some of the mechanics and some of the details were a little rough around the edges (later corrected in a Creature Collection Revised), but we put it together in such record time that we actually beat the 3rd Edition D&D Monster Manual to market. Creature Collection was the first available 3rd Edition monster book.

After everyone at White Wolf created the monsters (and I did make a few too), the material was passed to me. I parsed through the text provided by the creators and started adding world details that linked different creatures and backstories together. Thus were born characters like King Virduk. After I completed many of these, other White Wolf writers began adding related details and I continued to weave all this stuff together as best I could to create the framework for a fantasy world. World-building is something White Wolf was very good at!

After the Creature Collection was a huge success, we looked at the seeds of the world and decided our next mission (other than now turn our attention to spells and magic items in the first Relics & Rituals!) was to completely develop the world. The great braintrust we had at White Wolf created the Scarred Lands as you know it now, with the great apocalyptic setting that resulted from a war between gods and titans.

Now, after being the first setting for 3rd Edition OGL, Scarred Lands is effectively the first for 5th Edition OGL as well. We're also very pleased that it will be an official Pathfinder setting too. We have White Wolf ties to Paizo too, but that's the subject of another lesson in #RPGlore!

What's Next?

The 5th Edition OGL Gauntlet of Spiragos! We just need to give it a final check. I'll alert you when it's ready.
